As we enter into another New Year, don’t let cold weather slow your resolve. The seeds you plant now with marketing and prospecting will reward you with prospects and clients as the market picks up into the spring. Creatively keeping your name in front of customers, prospects, and influencers and actively asking for referrals is a great way to drum up new business in 2014.

Here are two marketing ideas to stay in front of your current and past customers to keep your name top of mind and encourage referrals.

New Year’s Resolution Social Media Contest
When you think about a New Year’s resolution, what comes to mind—losing weight? giving up coffee? Encourage your customers and prospects to think outside the box by making a New Year’s resolution to improve their Pin on calendar pointing new year resolutionsneighborhoods and communities. In our business, the right neighborhood can be just as important as the right house. But we often don’t think of the human choices and actions that make our neighborhood what it is.

Use your Facebook page to ask participants to share their community resolution and vote for their favorite. Announce the contest via email, postings on your Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest accounts, and maybe even printing up flyers to display in some local businesses. You could choose to give out one grand prize or a weekly winner. This kind of contest is a win-win. You’re getting people to share great ideas and commit to improve your community, you get your name in front of new prospects in your area, you get to collect new names for your marketing list, and you associate your brand with your community. You can even partner with other local businesses to acquire prize donations and to help spread the word about the contest and gain more brand exposure. Just make sure to ask for email addresses to build your contact list and to notify winners.

Say thank you and keep your name in front of your current and past customers by sending them a wall or desk calendar for the New Year.
